Still-Life & Landscape Painting

Kathleen Gray Farthing has been creating artwork her whole life.  After earning a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, she did illustrations and graphic design work while raising her family.  When her youngest left for college, she felt the urge to return to her fine art roots.  After hearing about the process of painting landscapes on location, or “en plein air”, one taste of painting outside was all it took for her passion to reignite.

She feels that there is a potential painting around every bed.  “I want people to be as awed as I am, or as amused or delighted or fascinated as I am.  That’s the challenge, as well as the pleasure, of painting.”  Traveling and painting excited and inspires her.  She has explored and painted the Olympic Peninsula, Cuba, Portugal, Nova Scotia, Florida, the Finger Lakes and many more beautiful areas in the United States.

The artist has participated in dozens of exhibitions and juried plein air painting events, including Paint It, Annapolis, Parrsboro (Nova Scotia) International Plein Air Competition, Artists of Location (Knoxville) and Glacier Plein air.  Her artwork has been accepted into the American Impressionist Society Small Works Show, several Ohio Plein Air Society juried museum exhibitions, National Oil Painters Wet Paint Competition and others.

“So much to paint, so many places to explore!”
